I am his pet
It was the month of August we were in a pet shop looking for a pet. We had decided to take a Labrador. Just six inches long a black lab caught our attention. The shopkeeper kept him on my palm and the children said, 'Breezy..look at your mom !' He wagged his tail and appeared to say 'Mom let's go home !'
Breezy and his mom have been the busiest people in the home..He has chewed socks..shoes...wires..his own mats..and has grown up to be a sensible pet. His mom was a working mother so in the morning after giving food ..leaving food in one bowl and water in another, say a hurried bye and would go. His dad and his friends would also go off only to return after two. Breezy had resigned to his fate, he had to sit alone till someone or the other returned.
Breezy has always been very expressive. Diwali is always a harrowing time for the pets. On some channel in Pet Talk, the doctor suggested that during Diwali days rice diet could help the pets to sleep better and could save them from all the unwanted noise. So I gave him rice twice a day for two days consecutively. On the third day as I bent down to keep his bowl full of rice, he just looked up at me for a minute or two..then a gentle woof..followed by a loud and clear ferocious bark, which meant, 'everyday rice ..what do you want me to do sleep like a dog for the whole day? What happened to the pedigree which dad had got, a bag full? I will not have any more rice!' He declared firmly
Breezy is now seven years old. Understands what he is supposed to do and what not. Yesterday when I didn't go to work he looked at me as if asking,' It doesn't appear to be a Sunday, how come you are at home?' But quietly sat tied to the door where he is supposed to be when no one is at home. A day, then another, and another and then he understood that there is some change in the setup of the home. He barked and barked and appeared to ask only one question, 'Now that you are at home, it is playtime for me'. So off went the leash and it is football time, race time, walk time, chase time, shoe race time snacks time, tea time .. I have tea and he the biscuits..a mug in my hand and he knows it is time to munch. I have become his pet!
He doesn't leave me for a second. I walk he walks, I stand he stands I sit he sits, he sleeps then I too sleep!
The moment all members are home the first question is not addressed to me but to Breezy 'So what did Mumma beta do the whole day?'And the pet with all its antics explains it to them.
Yesterday at 10 am Breezy with his head resting in my lap asked me many questions..He appeared to ask that from last seven years where I went." you didn't think about me? You would leave me with a bowl of food and a bowl of water. I would wait endlessly for your return, you always said will be back in few hours but those hours were like an eternity. I always wanted to play with you. Thank God you have left the job and are here for me I don't mind that you are busy the whole day picking up one thing or the other it is sheer fun following you'...
